- Maker labels, model plates, serials, and warnings
- Objective, mirror, corrector, focuser, saddle, threads, ports, and connectors
- Controllers, cables, power supplies, cases, manuals, and packaging
Record measurements
Measure aperture, tube diameter, focal length markings, barrel size, dovetail width, thread outside diameter and pitch where possible, tripod interface, shaft diameter, connector type, voltage, and polarity. Do not force unidentified threads together.
Separate family from exact model
“Celestron telescope” or “equatorial mount” is only a family. Generation, aperture, electronics, controller, firmware, saddle, country version, and included adapter stack may change compatibility.
Test conservatively
Use the correct voltage and polarity. Keep optical caps available. Do not power unknown vintage electronics until cords, capacitors, fuses, and grounding are assessed. Never test solar equipment on the Sun until the complete filtration system is positively identified and inspected.
